Dr Kai Liu, Trustee and Chair of YanFu Foundation was invited to attend the Beijing Municipal Government’s National Day celebration event and the Beijing Overseas Chinese Friendship Association’s annual meeting between 28th September and 1st October, 2013. The events are held annually and over 500 guests from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and all over the world gathered at Beijing for a series of meetings to get updates on the development strategy and policies of Beijing. It is an important platform for overseas Chinese business leaders and professionals to meet governmental officials to discuss how overseas Chinese communities can maintain their strong ties with the city and make contributions to Beijing’s development.
Mr Wang Anshun, the Mayor of Beijing, delivered a two hour speech to the attendees on the current social, economic and environmental challenges faced by Beijing. The speech covered almost every aspect of the city and outlined what city government plans to do to improve the city’s infrastructure and people’s lives. Mr Wang hopes the overseas Chinese community can maintain their support, both financially and intellectually, to help Beijing to become a global city with a good living standard and better environment. Dr Kai Liu participated in a number of meetings and also shared his views with the city leaders in the area of innovation-driven economy and the importance of cultural industries for Beijing’s global appeal.
